Message from the Metropolitan These are days when we, as a Church, try to assess the last financial year waiting in anticipation for new promises in the context of the the Sabha Mandalam being held from August 30, through September 1, I want to remind each Mandalam member to attend the Mandalam meeting prayerfully. Members of the Church are expected to pray for the effective conduct of the Mandalam meeting, so that the sessions of the Mandalam will be held peacefully to have creative and actionable discussions among the representatives to enable us to reach fruitful decisions.

It is really a matter of happiness for all of us that the Church is already engaged in discussions for bettering the existing situations to make the Church more dynamic and to prepare the path for more spiritual progress. We were able to ordain 24 dedicated clergies this year for the service of the Church.

I take this opportunity to praise God, remembering the prayerful goodwill of the families that offered these young men for serving God through the Church. As a Church and as parishes and organizations, we must pray for these young priests of the Mar Thoma Church to be a blessing to the community and to the parishes they are assigned to.

May God enable them to properly understand the attractions and distractions that they will come across while treading the path of cross, and ultimately offer dedicated and sacrificing services kanji 2001 pdf download by rev.

joseph deroo the Lord. India has a new president now. Pranab Kumar Mukharji has been elected to the office - the President of India. Equipped with a longstanding and credible political life, his election has elevated the Indian concept of democracy, which has always been a beacon of hope and inspiration for the whole world, especially when the world is under the grip of recession and other diminishing factors that thwart the progress of democracy. Let us hope that the new president will be able to lead India to further progress, completely based on the principles put forward by The Father of the nation namely, Mahatma Gandhi.

We express our great admiration as a Church and wholeheartedly congratulate the new president. May God give him and all the leaders of the nation wisdom to lead the country in the path of righteousness and progress. It is sad to note that the efforts of C. I, the body that acts for the unity of Mar Thoma, C.

I, and C. I Churches, have not yet been successful as expected and desired. The Moderators of both the Churches have retired. The new Moderators have taken charge of their offices. A meeting has been called forth this month to assess the situation and make progress possible. All must pray for better decisions which may quicken the combined future activities of these Churches.

The month of August is considered to be a month of meditation. Mary, mother of Jesus Christ, was present along with the disciples at the time when the body of believers had met in Jerusalem just after the Ascension, waiting prayerfully for new promises from the Savior. When they got the blessings of the Holy Ghost, they prepared themselves with great enthusiasm and surge for evangelistic mission. On the Mission Sunday, kanji 2001 pdf download by rev.

joseph deroo, we meditate this vision of the called out Church for evangelization. After that we meditate on the glorification of Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration.

Three disciples got the sweetest providence of seeing the glorified Jesus. In the end the prophets vanish. Only Jesus is seen. Everything becomes lusterless in the glorification of Jesus Christ, just like all other stars in the presence of the morning sun. This is what ought to happen in our lives too, kanji 2001 pdf download by rev.

joseph deroo. Jesus is the glorious rising sun of unequalled salvation. We think of the Christian presence in kanji 2001 pdf download by rev. joseph deroo building up of the nation in connection with the Indian Independence Day. August 19th is the Reformation Day.

We meditate on the paternal and witnessing aspects of Reformation. Our meditations of this month come to an end with the thoughts of a community of believers without corruption. The path of reformation is the path of liberty. If it is not devoid of corruption, it will become a road to slavery and anarchy. All of us should be able to involve in the reconstruction of the nation with a strong sense of Christian witnessing. Grace be with you all Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan.

There were families in attendance from various parishes of the Diocese. The classes led by the Rt. Dr Thomas Mar Theethos and Rev. Thomas were highly inspiring, thought provoking and informative. I thank the Diocesan Council and the parishes in the South East region for organizing the conference aspects with much care and efforts. The Vicar and the parishioners of the Mar Thoma Church of Greater Washington rose to the occasion in assisting the Diocese to conduct all the programs of the week in the best way possible.

This summer, we have witnessed the effective conduct of Senior-Junior Conferences of the Sunday school children in both North East and South East regions.

Both these gatherings, in New Jersey and Philadelphia had more than children in attendance. I appreciate the able leadership of Achens and Sunday School Teachers.

The Diocesan Sunday school is making an effort to encourage all the 8 regions to hold such regional conferences starting from summer of forward. This is possible only if the Vicars and Sunday School Teachers put their heads together this year itself and start the planning to choose venue and effective leaders. The whole kanji 2001 pdf download by rev. joseph deroo was involved in organizing it and I commend their tireless efforts. The leadership of our Theethos Tirumeni and M.

Thomas Achen made it more enriching. All these years, we were having the National Conference in the Midwest region and kanji 2001 pdf download by rev. joseph deroo North East region.

I urge the Edavaka Mission members to plan it for and later in the Southern region or Western region. The leadership of the Achens in Houston area and the full time youth chaplains of the Diocese made the Youth Conference a memorable one. Out of the delegates who attended the conference, a good kanji 2001 pdf download by rev. joseph deroo of them were quite new in attending the conference for the first time. The next Conference is planned to be held in Toronto during the first week of August The leadership Conference for the youth of age group 21 and above is at Staten Island, kanji 2001 pdf download by rev.

joseph deroo, NY during the first week of January. More than families are attending this Conference. The Rt, kanji 2001 pdf download by rev. joseph deroo. Mathews Mar Makarios Tirumeni, visiting the Diocese for the first time as the bishop of the Chruch, will give leadership. The Sabha Mandalam and Diocesan Assembly held its meetings also during summer.

Though these two are decision making bodies, they also held study sessions meant for the members as well as for our continuing education in our parishes. This is our task. The studies are to be an ongoing ministry in the Diocese. The challenge is to walk the talk. Both Rev. Christopher Phil Daniel and Rev. The ordination in Houston, the first fruit from that area and Ninth from North America, was the culmination of the National Youth Conferences, attended by a large number of our Youths.

The sermon on the occasion was given by Rev. Roy A Thomas, the first ordained person from North America, 13 years back. We need more and more young people to commit themselves and come forward for Seminary training.

We remember with gratitude the earnest efforts of our lay leaders who prayerfully desired and cop-operated in the formation of the Diocese. The leadership given by our clergy and bishops of the church enabled the community to grow. Hitherto, we had the shepherding ministry of two of our resident bishops. The quarterly publication of the Mar Thoma Messenger and the annual Family Conference strengthened the spiritual growth of our community.

This is the time for us to critically analyze the present for a broad understanding and move on with greater hope for a meaningful future. The Mar Thoma Messenger is celebrating the 30th year of its publication. There will be articles on the Diaspora community and those dealing with Faith practices, challenges and possibilities. We need radical thinking and clear vision on our community life in North America and Europe in the 21st century. The nations in the world are changing rapidly and our church is growing along as a global community.

The rights to information, education, food and employment turn the world to be a multi religious, multi cultural and pluralistic society. The ecclesiological life cannot ignore the ecological, economical, ecumenical and ethical realities of our time.

How can we preserve the core-values of faith while adapting to the changing times? Biblical characters such as Daniel, Shadrek, Meshach and Abednego stand as models before us. Apostle Paul who lived for the spreading of the gospel and wrote letters to the churches and pastoral letters to people like Timothy and Titus is another stalwart of faith. The words of Suffragan Metropolitan, Rt. Zachariahs Mar Theophilus, is an eye opener for us to have a radical thinking on the Mission and Ministry of the Church.

In our digital world where the moderns live, the church has to take seriously the digital divide, virtual world and the resultant victimization as mundane realities.

Let us remember that God revealed in Jesus Christ is present among us and the Word of God gives spiritual nourishment. Ignoring these or taking it casually will be detrimental to our faith-living. We are called to live the Gospel. We need the blessing and guidance of the Holy Spirit to remain as Kingdom people and to minster towards its furtherance in the new age and in the new land.

Mar Theodosius www. For many immigrants, moving to a strange land and establishing a new life was not an easy task.
